grant winners

Murray County Schools is honored to congratulate Sloane Singleton, music teacher at  Northwest Elementary, and Kristy Sitton, art teacher at North Murray High School, each the recipient of $2,500 grants awarded by the Oscar N. Jonas Memorial Foundation.

Singleton's winning project for the Seretean Grant , "Puppets With Purpose," at Northwest Elementary, integrates music, puppets, and literature to enhance foundational reading skills, focusing primarily on 1st grade. The innovative initiative culminates in an alphabet showcase, introducing one letter of the alphabet at a time through a puppet, a song, and a book. Once the alphabet has been covered, the classes will hold a performance for their parents and families, a timeline for around April 2024.

Sitton, the NMHS Art Teacher, has been awarded the Lorberbaum AIE Grant to revolutionize high school art education. Her project, "Enhancing Georgia High School Art Curriculum through Photoshop and Wacom Drawing Boards Integration," focuses on integrating Adobe Photoshop software with Wacom drawing boards. This innovative equips students with essential skills for contemporary art and design careers.  These skills are a must in today's art industry.

We are proud of Ms. Singleton and Ms. Sitton's commitment to innovative education. Congratulations again, ladies! #urmurray#thesettingofsuccesisMCS
